Paulo Fernandes joins Annals of Forest Science as a new Associate Editor

Paulo Fernandes holds a PhD in Forest Sciences (2003) and is Associate Professor (since 2013) at the Forest Sciences and Landscape Architecture Department of the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) in Vila Real, Portugal, and researcher at CITAB (Centre for the Research and Technology of Agro-Environmental and Biological Sciences).

Paulo studies wildland fire and has broad research interests, from fire ecology to fire management. He is particularly interested in how fire behaviour is shaped by the fire environment and in turn shapes fire effects and fire regimes. Previous and current work includes forest fuel characterization and fuel hazard appraisal; development of empirically-based fire behaviour and first-order fire effects models, especially in the frame of prescribed burning; assessment of post-fire tree response; fire danger rating; effectiveness of hazard-reduction fuel treatments; drivers of large fires; and formulation of fire management policies.
